Quick answer
The display name is the business name customers see on your WhatsApp Business API number. You set it when you register the number, and it appears in your WhatsApp profile; once Meta verifies it, it can also appear in chats and the chat list. It should clearly match your business and how your brand appears elsewhere. You can change it in WhatsApp Manager up to 10 times in 30 days, and each change is reviewed by Meta.
A rejected or confusing display name slows down your launch and makes customers less sure who is messaging them. This guide covers how to choose a name that gets approved and how to change it later.
Where the display name appears
- Your WhatsApp profile: always, once the number is registered.
- Chats and the chat list: once the name is approved through Meta's display name verification, which happens automatically when your number reaches a higher messaging limit.
- Exception: if a customer has saved your number with their own name for it, they see their saved name instead.
How to choose a display name that gets approved
Meta reviews display names against its display name guidelines in the Meta Business Help Center. These habits help:
- Use your real business or brand name, the same as on your website, signboard or invoices.
- Make sure your website or other public pages show that name, so Meta can connect it to your business.
- Match your normal spelling and capitalisation, for example "QuickMessage", not "QUICKMESSAGE".
Names that often cause problems:
- Only a generic word or place, such as "Shoes" or "Delhi Store".
- Slogans or long descriptions.
- Emojis, symbols or extra punctuation.
- Words that suggest verification, such as "Official" or "Verified".
- A name that belongs to another brand.

Display name and the blue tick
An approved display name is not the same as the blue tick. The blue tick appears for numbers with Official Business Account status, which you apply for separately. See our WhatsApp blue tick guide.
How QuickMessage helps
