Quick answer

Internet service providers can send broadband bill and renewal reminders on WhatsApp using approved utility templates on the WhatsApp Business API, with the subscriber's name, plan, amount, due date and a Pay now link. A simple schedule is 3 days before expiry, 1 day before, on the day, and a confirmation once payment is received. Below are 16 ready-to-use templates and three ways to automate them, including with ISPMate ISP billing software.

For a local broadband or FTTH operator, collections decide cash flow. Subscribers forget renewal dates, SMS reminders get lost among promotional texts, and every missed renewal turns into a suspension, a support call and sometimes a field visit. A clear WhatsApp message with the amount and a payment link, sent at the right time, fixes most of this. Tap Copy on any template below and replace the highlighted words in [brackets].

Why ISPs send payment reminders on WhatsApp

  • Subscribers already use WhatsApp every day. A reminder arrives in the same app they use to talk to family, not in a crowded SMS inbox.
  • One tap to pay. A "Pay now" button can open the subscriber's payment page directly, so they do not need to call you or wait for a collection agent.
  • Fewer support calls. When the message shows the plan, amount and due date, subscribers have fewer reasons to call and ask.
  • Two-way. If a subscriber replies "Already paid" or "Need help", your team sees it in a shared inbox and can sort it out in the same chat.
  • Trust. Messages come from your business name, not an unknown number, which matters when you are asking people for money.

A reminder schedule that works

Send fewer, better-timed messages. Stop reminders as soon as the subscriber pays.

Send reminders in the morning, between about 9 a.m. and 11 a.m., when people are most likely to pay straight away. Avoid late-night messages.

16 WhatsApp payment reminder templates for ISPs

Most of these are Utility templates: they are about the subscriber's own account and bill, with no promotional content. Keep them that way. If you add an offer, the template becomes Marketing and costs more. See marketing vs utility templates.

Each message is shown the way your subscriber will see it on WhatsApp.

3 ways to automate ISP payment reminders

Option 1 · For ISPs on ISPMate

ISPMate billing software + QuickMessage

ISPMate is ISP billing software for Indian broadband and FTTH operators, built by the same team as QuickMessage. It generates GST invoices every billing cycle, renews a plan when payment is received and suspends it on expiry, lets subscribers pay online by UPI, card or net banking, and records those payments automatically. It already sends SMS renewal reminders, and WhatsApp reminders are available through QuickMessage as a separately charged add-on.

Because the billing system already knows each subscriber's expiry date and payment status, reminders can be tied to it, so they go to the right people at the right time. Ask our team to set this up for your ISPMate account.

Option 2 · Any other billing software

QuickMessage REST API and webhooks

If you use another billing or RADIUS system, your developer can call the QuickMessage REST API to send an approved template when a bill is generated or a plan is about to expire. Delivery and read updates come back through webhooks, so you can see which subscribers received and read the reminder.

Option 3 · No integration

Upload a list and schedule a campaign

Export the subscribers whose plans expire in the next few days from your billing software, upload the list to QuickMessage, and schedule the reminder template with campaign management. It takes a few minutes a day and needs no developer. Remember to remove subscribers who have already paid before each send.

What it costs

On QuickMessage, a utility message to an Indian number costs ₹0.18, excluding GST. Marketing messages, such as an upgrade offer, cost ₹0.96.

Example Messages a month Approx. cost (excl. GST)
1,000 subscribers, 3 reminders + 1 confirmation each4,000 utility₹720
5,000 subscribers, 3 reminders + 1 confirmation each20,000 utility₹3,600

Many subscribers pay after the first reminder, so the real number of messages is usually lower. Replies from subscribers are free. Plans start at ₹999 a month; see full pricing.

Best practices

  • Collect WhatsApp opt-in at installation. Add a line to the CAF or new-connection form. See our WhatsApp opt-in guide.
  • Always show the customer ID, amount and date. It proves the message is genuine and saves a support call.
  • Stop reminders once the subscriber pays. A reminder after payment annoys people and leads to blocks.
  • Stay polite, even when overdue. No threats or pressure. Offer help instead: "Need help? Reply HELP."
  • Keep reminders and offers separate. Mixing an offer into a bill reminder makes it a marketing template.
  • Keep SMS as a backup. For subscribers who do not use WhatsApp, a transactional SMS still reaches them.

Frequently asked questions

Are ISP payment reminders utility or marketing templates?

Utility, as long as the message is only about the subscriber's own bill or plan, with no offers. If you add a promotion, Meta treats it as marketing.

Can I add a payment link to a WhatsApp reminder?

Yes. Add a "Pay now" URL button to the template. With a dynamic link, each subscriber opens their own payment page.

How much does it cost to send internet bill reminders on WhatsApp?

On QuickMessage, each utility message to an Indian number costs Rs 0.18 excluding GST. Four messages a month to 1,000 subscribers cost about Rs 720 plus GST.

Can ISPMate send WhatsApp payment reminders?

ISPMate sends SMS renewal reminders, and WhatsApp reminders are available through QuickMessage as a separately charged add-on, built by the same team.

Does it work with other ISP billing software?

Yes. Any billing or RADIUS system that can call an API can send reminders through the QuickMessage REST API. Without integration, you can upload a list and schedule a campaign.
